No other fount I know...
I had the wonderful opportunity to witness three lovely ladies (read: crazy youth girls) get dunked in our version of the River Jordan today. I even had the great honor of praying for two of them at their request. Listening to their testimonies warmed the cockles of my heart and reminded me again about the great redeeming work of the Lamb! It is always so beautiful for me to see people proudly and boldly proclaiming public their personal decision to follow the Messiah. He has called us into His marvelous light!
But I know that my work as a youth mentor has not finished...it has only started! Baptism is just the beginning...in fact, that's the first thing that Jesus does; baptism, then testing in the desert, and THEN ministry. Now we as a community to spur these three ladies, and all the other crazy kids who have gone before them, to continue to, step by step, develop lifestyles of holiness and God-pleasing habits. I as a youth worker must help speak this truth into their lives. Discipleship is a heady, heavy calling; I must make sure that I live my own life worthy of such a calling!
I always love the chance to sing a favorite hymn:
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
~Robert Lowry
