Happy Single Awareness Day!
Happy Valentine's Day! My other post on the update of what's been up is still being composed, but I thought I'd post this in honor of the day of lurv, while blasting Beyonce's "Single Ladies" (come on, one of the best songs EVER)
5 things I LOVE about being single!
1. Being by myself
I love lounging around on my bed, couch, at the mall, etc. I love being by myself--the introvert in me craves alone time in order to charge up emotionally for my next social event.
2. Spending time with friends
Whenever anyone enters into a new, intentional relationship, dynamics with all other relationships shift and change. The most obvious one I see and experience is that time with friends is suddenly a precious commodity, parceled out more discreetly, andno more much fewer late night korean barbecue/boba/ice cream runs. I'm claiming friend time as long as I can!
3. I can Pinterest wedding ideas all I want and not be afraid I'm scaring someone off!
My friends already know I'm a little crazy about this--been planning my wedding since I was 10 and sitting in my frilly dress with SpiderloverMOH by my side. Good times.
4. Finding new ways and people to "love"
Being single means I can really concentrate on imagining new ways to give and show love to those around me: my parents, kiddos at the Central Intelligence Agency, my small group, distant and not-so-distant friends, etc.
5. Having time to invest in a love relationship with J!
"An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit." I Corinthians 7:34.
I don't think that people in relationships/marriages AREN'T concerned with the affairs of the Lord. But the absence of such an intense and time/energy-consuming relationship allows me more time to invest and devote myself to this one! I'm free to choose what ministries I go to, where I can serve, and live out my calling with abandon and not having to take someone else's calling into account.
I want to put it out there that I am NOT putting down romantic relationships or marriages. I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really
hope that one day I too will have a husband and family to call my own. And on that day, there will be ten thousand reasons why I would love being in a relationships.
But I can't just sit here and bemoan by my poor sorry state! Being single is good, beautiful, and fulfilling too! And I'm not alone, I have family, friends, Community...so much love to give and receive! So I say Happy Valentine's Day to all my friends celebrating love...even the single ones!
One last quote to leave with all my single friends...
