MDTS: A new way to worship
Here, they call it "soaking." You just sit or lay down and just soak and soak and soak in God's Presence. Usually accompanied by mellow worship music. Or in silence, which, of course, is a great place to be. "Be still and know that I am God."
In a follow-up to the last post, in which I talked about spending time in God's love, I heard this song from Misty Edwards, a worship leader from IHOP I'd heard a lot about but never fully listened to. Here are such beautiful lyrics:
"What does love look like?...Yes, weep and weep and weep; that's my response, my gut reaction!
Love's definition, love's definition was looking at me
Looking at Him, hanging on a tree
I began to weep and weep and weep and weep"
Being here has led me to discover new ways to worship: not just in singing praises about who God is, but a sincere offering of my own heart. New songs. Children's worship as my own offering. Times of prayer, listening, and intercession. Sitting still. Reading the Word. Hearing the voice of God. Just soaking His Presence and letting others' expression of worship to Him become my own.
It's not that I didn't know these before, but now they are more familiar, more comfortable. It goes beyond the Sunday's service, though I do love meeting with my fellow believers, but understanding that delighting in God and enjoying Him, and loving Him, is worship to Him. It's intimacy and communication and communion and time well spent. It's in your quiet time, during your chore time, during the busyness.
Some of it is even new worship, or more radical, "charismatic" ways of conducting a worship session--like listening to a Misty Edwards song. It may not sound like a worship song, or a praise song--but it sure reflects my broken and surrendering heart before the God who is the definition of love.
