Grad School: The End

People have been coming up to me and asking me if I'm excited to be finished with school.  I certainly have been relieved and glad the era of homework and papers were over and done with, especially in the days right after finals.  But excitement didn't come until I donned on my cap, gown, and hood, strode onto that stage (with my name correctly pronounced!), and received my diploma cover, and celebrated with my family and friends!
Call me Master!
The hood is super awesome.

Anyway, I made it!  Thank you to all who have been supporting and praying for me, taking my late-night calls about how awful homework is, waiting for coffee dates to take place after my papers, finals, and child intake assessments forms were finally completed, and cheering me on all the way!  You know who you are: let's meet up for more coffee/jamba/boba!

Today I woke up with a freshness that comes with not having to go to school or work for a while.  While I was having some good old quiet time, I was able to reflect on all the great things that have come out of grad school.  I like bullet points and lists, so I've decided to list out the top ten things I'm most grateful for in these past two years of graduate school!

  • Going to the social work school of my dreams
  • Joy Dares helping me stay grateful and optimistic about my school and work
  • Awesome professors who are in the field and gave great advice
  • My second year internship: the internship of my dreams, with a great supervisor and preceptor to boot
  • Meeting new friends and colleagues
  • Learning about social justice
  • Struggling through my own faith as it relates to social work ethics
  • Discovering that I love this profession and I can't wait to start working in 2014!
  • Learning to balance school, work, family, church, friends, etc.
  • My weekly Metro-Gold rides!
I think more than excitement, thankfulness is permeating my heart right now.  And relief that schooling is over over over! (at least for now) It's weird to think that school is no longer in my foreseeable future, and that chapter of my life as a student is over, and I'll need some time to properly bid it farewell.  Yet, the future ahead is exciting and challenging and adventurous for me!  And that's also exciting!
