from superficiality to dignity and might

"As painful as the process may be, that which shatters our superficiality also shatters the fetters of our fragility and frees us to walk with dignity and might to our destinies."

Beth Moore wrote this in her workbook on the study of the book of Esther. Which is an amazing study, by the way, and I am psyched for every Monday evening when I can go be with my sistas and learn intense things.

I love superficial. The world has taught me to love the surface level. Queen Esther lived in a world where beauty was the most important thing. I spend most of my time thinking about how my outer layers seem to others. And I get bogged down with a lot of self-hatred and low self-esteem because I can only concentrate on how dissatisfied I am with the superficial. At the end, I only end up feeling discouraged and pessimistic.

Queen Esther thought she couldn't do anything because she thought her only value was in her beauty. But God opened up her eyes to see that this is not true...she was more, deeper than her skin. She was not weak: she was strong, because she could take courage in YHWH.

I want freedom to "walk in dignity and might" toward my destiny. My destiny, the one He ordained for me, is one of freedom and joy and hope and life! It has nothing to do with the superficial! So strip me, shatter my outer layers, help me shed the titles the world imposes on me, and help me to take heart in You.

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful...You are [Sarah's] daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. " I Peter 3:3-6
